Dyson, like many organizations that thrive on creativity and innovation, was attracted to a 4000 square foot space in a timber-framed building on Adelaide Street. With exposed brick and beams, it was the perfect foundation for the kind of work environment they wanted to create for the team.

Dyson wanted to integrate its newest products into the design – a combined faucet and hand-dryer were installed with mechanisms housed in the cabinetry below. Also, the Dyson lighting line hadn’t even been recognized by the Canadian Standards Association. To get around that challenge, we installed temporary lighting that could be easily switched once we secured the appropriate approvals.

It goes without saying that the space is as innovative as it is beautiful, and we were proud to be able to help Dyson and its design team realize their vision.

Lesson learned
Most of our clients are facility managers who don’t have experience managing construction: they’re not familiar with the terminology nor the process. Not to mention, they’re stressed because this particular renovation or relocation is over and above their actual day job.

Unfortunately, the only thing a facilities manager can do is fail because the team only sees what’s gone wrong. When a facility manager does an excellent job, as the Dyson team did in this case, no one notices a thing because it all comes together seamlessly. So show your facility manager some love!
